Bury travelled to the Keepmoat for Rovers’ first home game of the season.

Bury FC finished in 14th position in the League One table last season, losing their final game away at Stevenage by 3 goals to nil.

The Shakers drew their first game at home to Brentford this season.

Match Action – First Half

Bury had the best of the opening period, passing the ball well and not allowing Rovers to keep the ball for any period of time. Their persistence paid off in the 5th minute when a corner was whipped in by Steven Schumacher. After a scrappy piece of play in the six yard box, JOE SKARZ eventually poked the ball past Gary Woods to give the visitors an early lead.

Rovers reacted positively to going behind, with Kyle Bennett shining for the hosts. They dominated the next period, and came close on a few occasions. When Bury attacked, Rovers often caught them on the break yet failed to level the scores.

In the 36th minute, a good piece of play between Chris Brown and Kyle Bennett on the edge of the area resulted in BENNETT sliding the ball low into the centre of the goal despite pressure from two Bury defenders.

Following the goal, Rovers again piled pressure on the Bury defence and came close through a number of sources. Bury managed to withhold the pressure and went into the break level.

Match Action – Second Half

The second half kicked off with both sides continued where they had left off in the first half.

Billy Paynter had the opening chance of the half after 53 minutes, turning well to shoot from distance, rattling the post. Rovers continued to create chances, with Chris Brown heading over from close range following a David Cotterill cross.

In the 68th minute, Steven Schumacher was shown a second yellow, resulting in red for a professional foul.

Kyle Bennett had several chances, but failed to double his tally.

In the 84th minute, David Syers found CHRIS BROWN in the area who slotted home to give Rovers the lead, despite looking to be in an offside position.
