League football is back! Doncaster Rovers travel to Walsall on Saturday for the opener of the League One campaign.

Walsall welcome Rovers to the Bescot Stadium for their first game in League One since 2008.

Who are Walsall FC?

Founded in 1888 as Walsall Town Swifts, the side was a combination of both Walsall Town and Walsall Swifts.

The Saddlers are managed by former Leyton Orient and Sheffield Wednesday defender Dean Smith, who also appeared for the club between 1989 and 1994. Doncaster born Andy Butler captains the side.

Neil Sullivan and Shelton Martis are both unavailable due to respective injuries. Billy Paynter, Jamie McCombe and James Harper could make their Rovers debuts.


Walsall’s squad are reported to be fully fit ahead of the opening fixture. James Baxendale may feature against his former club.
